HAVING HOT WEATHER PLAN KEY TO SUMMER CONCRETING
To cope with hot weather conditions in Texas, some practical methods and control procedures have been developed over the years. Texas specification requirements are discussed, and details that should be considred when developing a comprehensive hot weather plan are noted: trial batches should be made under anticipated conditions and construction procudeures; rapid setting time and increased water demand may be offset in several ways. Each of these areas are discussed in some detail. Some precautions noted here include the following: suubgrade forms and reinforcing steel should be sprinkled or fogged with cool water; work force should be sufficiently large; and there should be close coordination with the plant. Other recommendations are presented that relate to the following: mix design water; wind screens and sunshades; temporary coverings; curing acceleration; water curing; and flexural and compressive specimens.
