RELIABILITY OF PHEUDONYNAMIC TEST IN EARTHQUAKE RESPONSE SIMULATION
The Building Research Insititute's (BRI, Japan), work related to the improvement of the pseudodynamic test (PSD) system, and the evaluation of the PSD test performance are presented in this paper. Algorithms developed for improving the PSD test performance are presented. A correlation study conducted at BRI is described: A pair of identical steel frame structures were fabricated, and one was tested using a shake table device, and the PSD test was applied to the other. The responses obtained were compared, and the accuracy of the PSD test was examined. Supplemental experiment to investigate the differences between the responses obtained from the shake table and the PSD tests is described. The effects of experimental errors included in the PSD test are discussed in reference to an elastic PSD test applied to the full-scale 6-story steel structure. Conclusions drawn from the study are discussed.
