SHANGHAI IN FULL SWING
The streets of Shanghai crowded with bicyclists, buses, and pedestrians needed an alternate form of transportation to reduce the congestion, so rapid transit with its high capacity was chosen for the busiest corridors. Problems with soft ground and narrow streets had to be resolved during tunnel construction. Design of rolling stock and tunneling methods are discussed.
