SAPPORO OPENS TOHO LINE

The increasing population of Sapporo, Japan has given rise to the opening of the third subway route on the Toho line. The subway was chosen as the most viable public transport option because of its ability to carry more passengers and alleviate some of the congestion already evidenced on the roads. Five years of construction entailed solving problems with loose and soft ground conditions. Description of cars used on the line as well as future plans are given.
