FOCUS ON HYDRAULIC SYSTEM MAINTENANCE TO TONE UP A BACKHOE-LOADER'S MUSCLES

A backhoe-loader's real muscle is the hydraulic system. A regular oil sampling and analysis regimen will protect the hydraulic system from normal wear. It will tell you if the maintenance program should be amended, and will detect accelerated wear patterns so you can take steps to avert breakdowns. There are also a number of everyday steps which can be taken to ensure the backhoe-loader is ready for work, such as wiping dust from hydraulic hose connectors before inserting them into access jacks and not opening the system for maintenance or repair on the jobsite. Several other operating pointers are given in this article, and a checklist for a daily backhoe-loader once-over is provided.
