SURFACE TRANSPORTATION: THE ROAD AHEAD
This article by the Hon. Norman Mineta (D-Calif.), Chairman of the House Public Works and Transportation Subcommittee on Surface Transportation, presents his beliefs about the past and future of the federal transportation program. He sees the role of the federal government in increasing and maintaining a national transportation network as being defined by the broader national goals of fostering international competitiveness and domestic economic development. The real challenge he sees is balancing present and future transportation needs against financial constraints.
