SNOWFIGHTERS GIVEN NEW OPTIONS IN DEICERS
This is a short note on the 29th Annual North American Snow Conference April 9-11, in Hartford, Connecticut, at which several manufacturers of deicers presented their snow fighting products and test results. This article presents brief summaries of presntations made at the conference. An anticorrosive deicer was described which stops the corrosion process by creating a barrier that keeps the oxygen out and stops rust. A calcium magnesium acetate (CMA) product in easy-to-handle form, and far less corrosive than salt is also described. A product composed of 97.5% sodium chloride and 2.5% corrosion inhibitor is noted. A presentation by the Salt Institute spoke of salt's effectiveness in snow fighting.
