THE ROLE OF COMECON OIL AND TANKERS

In the first section of the study the existing Comecon tanker fleet is examined in terms of the historical development of the fleet, its present size and structure, the situation in individual Comecon member countries. This section also examines the tanker orderbook of Comecon in terms of size and structure and Comecon shipbuilding. Section 2 discusses the analysis of the employment pattern of the Comecon tanker fleet, initially listing the companies which operate the fleet, and then describing the trading pattern by route and by tanker size category, high-lighting the national and international roles of the Comecon fleet. Section 3 discusses the Comecon oil industry. Historical trends in Comecon economic activity and energy consumption are reviewed and compared with trends in other parts of the world. In Section 4 a forecast of Comecon oil demand and supply up to 1985 is made. On the basis of these projections, Comecon tanker requirements are estimated and compared with the Comecon tanker orderbook in order to define what Comecon policies may be, with regard to the employment of the Comecon fleet in national and international tanker trades.
