SOME ASPECTS ON THE USE AND SPECIFICATION OF MODIFIED BITUMENS ---EXPO ON ASPHALT; 7TH AAPA INTERNATIONAL ASPHALT CONFERENCE, BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA, 7-11 AUGUST 1988.

The use of modified bitumens in road maintenance is becoming accepted practice throughout the world. It is important that a uniform appraisal technique, which broadly characterises a modified binder is available to be used universally for comparative purposes. Such a system must give some indication of the engineering properties of the material expressed in standard engineering units and terms. It is recognised that the scheme suggested here makes no allowance for rates of shearing strain or other more complex rheological properties, and that each country may well use and develop more sophisticated tests which bear a closer relationship to their own set of performance criteria. The scheme is intended to offer a first approximate solution in what will be a reiterative process and utilise equipment and practices already used by much of the road industry. For the number of the covering record of the conference, see IRRD no 814452.
