ELECTRIFIED ROAD TRANSPORT AND URBAN MOBILITY

I TRASPORTI ELETTRIFICATI STRADALI E LA MOBILITA URBANA

This article describes progress and development in electric powered transport modes: trams, trolley buses, light rail rapid transit and electric vehicles (buses and cars). Examples of electric and hybrid public transport vehicles in use and on trial in Milan are illustrated. It is concluded that the use of electric energy would constitute a great advance in the improvement of air quality and the reduction of noise levels in urban areas.
