CITY CENTRE PLANNING AND PUBLIC TRANSPORT. CASE STUDIES FROM BRITAIN, WEST GERMANY AND FRANCE

This book contains a discussion about the principles, legislation and practices of planning very large city centres. An examination of the effects of public transport policies on the central areas of several cities in Britain, West Germany and France is also provided in order to represent a range of solutions to common transport issues. Case studies of the following towns are discussed: Birmingham, coventry, Lyon, Marseille, lille, Hamburg, Frankfurt, breman, luebeck, Paris, London, redditch and burnley. The role of light transit systems is emphasized. A brief discussion about whether public transport could renew the city centre is also given, and the results of a survey on public opinion about Birmingham city centre are provided in the appendix.
