ELASTO-PLASTIC ANALYSIS OF UNDERGROUND EXCAVATION PROCESS BY THE FINITE ELEMENT METHOD. LARGE ROCK CAVERNS - PROCEEDINGS OF THE INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM, HELSINKI, FINLAND, 25-28 AUGUST 1986. VOLUME 2

Application of the finite element method in geotechnical engineering implies generally a strong recognition of the proper construction sequence, especially when constitutive material laws are non-linear. The present paper describes the implementation of a recent technique for simulation of material addition or removal such as encountered in construction processes. Extension of this method to elasto-plastic analysis is proposed. Numerical applications related to underground excavations illustrate the possibilities allowed by the related simcp (simulation of construction processes) program. For the covering abstract of the symposium see IRRD 810647. (Author/TRRL)
