INFLUENCE OF URBAN FACTORS ON CAR OWNERSHIP. TRANSPORTATION PLANNING RESEARCH COLLOQUIUM 1987, EIGHT MILLION CARS IN 2010, THE HAGUE, NOVEMBER 26-27, 1987

INVLOED MATE VAN VERSTEDELIJKING OP AUTOBEZIT

Drivers licence and car ownership in the big cities are lower than the average in the Netherlands. With the use of OVG data 1978-1984, research has been done to elucidate how much this lower level is due to demographic factors and how much it is due to "urban" factors. It was found that the lower level of car ownership in the four big cities can be explained about 1/3 by demographic factors and about 2/3 by urban factors. As a result of these urban factors the forecasting of car ownership in 2010 can be reduced with the number of 300000 cars. For the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD 811092. (TRRL)
