MANAGEMENT OF LOGISTICAL RETROMOVEMENTS: AN EMPIRICAL ANALYSIS OF LITERATURE SUGGESTIONS

The paper reports the findings of a survey of traffic and distribution executives from companies which had conducted product recalls initiated by the Food and Drug Administration during the early to mid 1980s. These findings were compared with literature suggestions for dealing with recalls to determine the extent to which actual practices might conform. The comparisons yield a number of important managerial guidelines for the more effective conduct of recalls as well as focusing attention on the increasingly significant role of retromovements in logistics management.
