BUS PRIORITY TREATMENTS IN THE DENVER METRO AREA

An Institute of Transportation Engineers technical committee was formed to analyze Bus Priority Treatments in the Denver Metro area. The goal was to inventory all of the bus priority treatments implemented in the Denver Metro area within the last ten years and to develop criteria for the evaluation of the effectiveness of the improvements as a guide for future planning efforts. The committee defined Bus Priority Treatments for this study as "priority for the movement of bus traffic on public streets and highways." The committee contacted traffic and transportation engineers in the Denver region and has compiled results of a questionnaire submitted to the local officials. The questionnaire sought to inventory existing operational bus priority treatments, categorize these, develop an evaluation criteria, and determine the effectiveness of the treatment.
