NEW PLACER HELPS TUNNEL
This article briefly describes the use of a new scissors-like concrete placing assembly during the construction of a light rail transit system tunnel. The accordian-like configuration of the system allows the placing line to extend down the length of the tunnel form without time-consuming, periodic reassembling as usually required. Because of its horizontal design, it can unfold in a width as narrow as 48 in. The contractor used the system to place concrete at the 4, 8 and 2 o'clock positions without breaking apart and repositioning the placing line each time. The Tunnel Scissor, initially developed to save time and money, also resulted in a better job as the concrete was placed without any voids.
