LAP-HELD COMPUTERS PLAY KEY MANAGEMENT ROLE
Lap-held computers play an important role for the Virginia Department of Transportation's pavement management system (PMS). Their 11 computers, each no larger than a briefcase, are used in the state's nine highway districts to put information on road conditions into the system and withdraw it as needed. This article discusses their cost effectiveness and the type of information they produce.
