LEACHATE COLLECTION IN LANDFILLS: STEADY CASE
This is an analysis of the performance of lateral drainage collection systems under steady-state conditions. The procedures are useful for analyzing the steady-state performance of landfill leachate collection systems. Equations and graphs are presented which may be used to predict the average and maximum saturated depth on the liner, the location for the maximum saturated depth, and the leakage rate. The analysis uses the Dupuit approximation for lateral drainage, assumes unsaturated conditions beneath the liner, and neglects the spatial variation in the leakage rate. The algebraic equations developed for average saturated depth approximate the solution for the governing differential equation to within 1%. Four parameters to which the saturated depth over the liner is sensitive are discussed.
