SOME INSTITUTIONAL AND LEGAL ASPECTS OF THE FRENCH URBAN TRANSPORT SYSTEM
Except for a handful of cities, such as Paris or Marseilles, urban systems are operated by private companies following contracts with local governments. There are specific urban transport authorities to operate urban transport who have the powers of a local government, but which are restricted to urban transport. Transit operators and transport authorities, contracts, fare levels, timetables and schedules are among the aspects of urban transport in France which are presented.
