INTERNAL TEMPERATURE DISTRIBUTION OF A SUBTERRENE ROCK-MELTING PENETRATOR

The internal temperature distribution of a prototype rock-melting penetrator was calculated. The maximum temperature and temperature distribution of the refractory metal structure was in good agreement within approximately 50 K) with experimental data. The data from the operation of a solid melting-consolidating type penetrator are considered and the design details of such a configuration are given. The results indicate that the analytical techniques for thermal analysis and design of penetrator systems are reliable. /AUTHOR/
