HOSPITAL-BASED SYSTEM FOR ANALYSIS AND FOLLOW-UP OF TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS AND CASUALTIES IN GOETEBORG, SWEDEN. TRAFFIC OPERATION AND MANAGEMENT. PROCEEDINGS OF SEMINAR M HELD AT THE PTRC SUMMER ANNUAL MEETING, UNIVERSITY OF SUSSEX, ENGLAND, 15-18 JULY 1985, VOLUME P269

A hospital-based system for the comprehensive analysis of traffic accident data and medical follow-up data has been in use in Stockholm since 1979. The basic data are taken from the police reports on the circumstances of the accidents and from the hospital records noting their outcome. Complementary data are provided by "in-depth at-the-scene" investigations, interviews and medical follow-up. Accident, hospital and investigation data can be linked and analysed with a standard computer program. More than 4000 traffic accident casualties have been recorded since 1983. Detailed information about any traffic accident and its consequenses facilitates on-going traffic planning and is useful for accident prevention and for investigations of impact trauma mechanisms. Studies of car-pedestrian and bicycle accidents have already proved this. For the covering abstract of the seminar see IRRD 286745. (Author/TRRL)
