APPENDIX. MODULAR DESIGN APPLICATIONS STUDY (DECKHOUSE AND OUTFIT)
This appendix contains the basic material developed prior to the actual final design presented in the report. As described in the report, the ship represented by MA Design No. C5-S-75a was the basic ship to be considered. The house on this ship was modified to reflect the decrease in crew size and the elimination of passengers. Based on this design, which is more complicated and costly than the final design selected, the various piping systems and air conditioning systems were studied in details. Plan nos. 5475-1 through 4 were studied in detail. Plan nos. 5475-5 through 13 represent this detail study. During the preparation of these plans the basic concepts of design features for modular construciton were developed and tested for ease of construction. These same principles were applied to the design finally selected. ( Author )
