STATE OF SOUTH DAKOTA PRICE INDEX OF STATE HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION COSTS: FIRST HALF OF 1975
This semi-annual report shows that the Cost Index for the first half of 1975 stands at 149.2 which is 0.3 points or 0.2 percent below the index for the second half of 1974. Two of the indicator items, Unclassified Excavation and Portland Cement Concrete Pavement, show an increase in price while the remaining six items show a decrease in price when compared to figures for the second half of 1974. The Cost Index's eight work items comprise 70.9 percent of the project costs. Contained in the report are the following: Average contract prices for the eight items selected and the Composite Index showing the percent of percent of change from the preceding period; description of work items showing the unit price with the percent of change from the preceding half; South Dakota Construction Cost Index shown by years from 1923 through 1969 and by half years from 1970 to date; and number and size of projects total contract amounts and average number of bidders. A graph has been furnished showing the South Dakota Highway Construction Cost Index for the years 1950 to date. Two other indexes, the Federal Highway Administration Composite Index and the Engineering News Record U.S. Construction Cost Index, both adjusted to the 1967 base, have been plotted on the same graph for comparative purposes.
