UNDERWATER CORROSION EXPERIENCE WITH TOWED VEHICLES, INSTRUMENT HOUSINGS AND TOW CABLES

This paper details experience with corrosion control for towed aluminum alloy vehicles, aluminum and steel pressure housings for instrumentation, and steel tow cables. Protective measures that can enhance performance are described. Experience shows that future development and improvement in underwater equipment performance with respect to corrosion requires continued materials research and evaluation surveillance over manufacturing and maintenance practices, and continuing feedback of information concerning performance of equipment in the field.
