LINED VENEER IN TRAFFIC SIGNS

PINNOITETTU VANERI LIIKENNEMERKKIKAYTOSSA

The bulk, about three-quarters of traffic signs are manufactured of weather-resistant lined birchwood veneer. These products have been used in Finland for about ten years and the experience is generally positive. This price/durability ratio is highly comparable to other products suited to traffic signs. Veneer traffic signs have been investigated by forest products laboratory in technical research centre of Finland for more than four years. The article is based on test results and other material related to the investigation. In the first years of use the traffic sign film showed some cracking, which was not due to the type of lined veneer used but was linked with other factors of the manufacturing process. (TRRL)
