THE CARRIAGE BY SEA OF HAZARDOUS CARGOES REQUIRING ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROL
The paper discusses the principal parameters associated with the safe transport by sea of hazardous cargoes requiring environmental control. The parameters discussed are containment, handling and the environmental control required to regulate and prevent spillage and pollution. Since heat transfer plays a prominent part in containment and environmental control, it has been discussed at length together with insulation and cargo conditioning plant requirements and as crew quarters are in close proximity with the cargo storage area on ships, some health hazards have also been discussed.
