PEDESTRIAN TRAFFIC IN BUS AND RAILWAY STATIONS

VOETGANGERSVERKEER IN BUS EN SPOORWEGSTATIONS

Bus and railway stations are a part of the traffic and transport system and must be considered firstly on their function in traffic and secondly on their function as a waiting place. The traffic function is to provide the possibilities of transport mode changes of pedestrians. This includes pedestrian movements, which can be characterized by speed, quantity and density. These three parameters can be combined to determine some levels of service. A quantitative evaluation of stations needs good data. This can be obtained by use of time stamp registration and statistically reliable perception data of details such as the method of queuing. (TRRL)
