THE BALTIMORE RAPID TRANSIT RAIL CAR--AN OVERVIEW
A new standard rapid transit system in Baltimore, Maryland was inaugurated during the Fall of 1983. The Urban Mass Transportation Administration encouraged a joint procurement of rail-cars by Metropolitan Dade County (MDC), Miami, Florida and the Mass Transit Administration (MTA) of Baltimore. The Budd Company (Transit America Incorporated) designed, manufactured and supplied the rail-cars. The MTA and MDC cars differ in very new features. Rail-cars equipment design, features and terminology are covered in this paper. The information will be useful to transit operators, trainees and students.
