THE TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT SCHEME OF THE TOWN CENTRE OF ZWOLLE (I)
HET VERKEERSCIRCULATIEPLAN VAN DE ZWOLSE BINNENSTAD (I)
The town centre of the municipality of Zwolle has approximately 2200 inhabitants, 4700 labour places and an area of 54 hectares. The town centre is the shopping centre for a big region. Since 1971 studies have been carried out for the gradual introduction of a traffic management scheme. A further test is now being carried out. In this article the before study is described together with the main aims of the traffic management scheme. All visitors to the centre, regardless of their transport mode, will for a longer or shorter time be pedestrians. Therefore it is important to improve the environment for the pedestrian, to provide comfortable shopping areas, footpaths and stops for public transport in the neighbourhood.
