A highly efficient inverter module using GTO (gate turn-off) thyristor quenching is described. The suitability of this circuit for the power supply of ac driven electric locomotives rated up to 100 kva is pointed out. The operation of the circuit in conjunction with a 65-kva auxiliary static frequency changer is considered.
