ON THE WAVE EXCITING FORCE AND RESPONSE OF WHIPPING OF SHIPS
The hydrodynamic force induced by waves which excites hull vibration at the bottom entrance of a ship is calculated based on the measured pressure-time relation at the bow of a 76,000 dw tanker in ballast condition. The wave exciting force produced by the bow flare in the full load condition is also studied by assuming the form of the flare. The response factor of the whipping induced in large ships by such a wave pressure as measured above is estimated from the results of the calculations and measurements.
