VRA POINT/COUNTERPOINT: A HEALTHY DOSE OF RESTRAINT...OR A LIBERAL DRAFT OF COMPETITION
This article gives the opposing points of view on the question of whether or not the termination of the recent Voluntary Restraint Agreement (VRA) on Japanese car imports will be good for the United States. One viewpoint is that a healthy dose of restraint is needed to strengthen the ailing U.S. auto industry. The counter viewpoint is that, while protection is hard to resist and even harder to give up once tested, a dose of competitive spirits could light a fire under U.S. auto manufacturers.
