EFFECT OF RIGHT-OF-WAY ARRANGEMENTS ON TRAFFIC BEHAVIOUR
ETUAJO-OIKEUSJARJESTELYJEN VAIKUTUS LIIKENNEKAYTTATYMISEEN
The effects of right-of-way arrangements on traffic behaviour and safety were investigated at four collector street intersections in the suburbs of Helsinki. At two intersections the crossing side street was equal to the collector street in the right-of-way sense. The other two intersections differed only so that side streets were provided with giveway traffic signs. The safety of the intersections were studied by the conflict method. Traffic behaviour was observed separately for driving speeds on the collector street, behaviour of drivers entering the intersection from side streets and for the solution models of interactions of vehicle drivers and pedestrians.
