A NEW DESIGN OF A DAYLIGHT SCREEN FOR TUNNEL ENTRANCES
NIEUW ONTWERP DAGLICHTROOSTER VOOR TUNNELINGANGEN
During a period of more than ten years practical experiments have been carried out into the lighting of tunnel entrances. At present is is usual to install 10000 lux in the threshold zone of a tunnel. This very high value is challenged by light technicians as well as by policy makers. This article however refutes the challenges. Results of the experiments show that a level of 30000 lux is necessary for good vision in tunnel entrances. The experiments have also led to a new design of a daylight screen, by which it has become possible to obtain the high luminance level in the threshold zone without the use of expensive energy.
