AUTOMATION IN MARINE RADAR. COLLISION WARNING AND COURSE TRACKING AT SEA

The need for automatic collision warning at sea and for more rapid and accurate navigational information has led to the development of an auto-tracking marine navigational radar. In it the display provides initial all-round early warning of any approaching vessel (or coastline) followed by auto-tracking and collision-risk assessment of any vessels on potentially dangerous courses. All the navigational information is presented as a composite picture superimposed on the live radar information on a two-color display system. An additional facility is incorporated by which the effects of a change of one's own ships' course and/or speed can be rapidly and comprehensively assessed and optimized before any actual maneuver is initiated.
