SAAB ADDS MORE ROBOT POWER TO ENGINE ASSEMBLY
Nine additional robots have been installed in Saab's engine plant in Sodertalje, south of Stockholm to increase the flexibility of assembly and expand capacity. The original group assembly concept has been replaced by individual assembly stations using special unmanned mobile assembly carriers. The highlights of the system which is a blend of automatic and manual assembly which offers maximum flexibility are described. Engineers comment that the new system has brought considerable improvements in quality and marked labor savings. The system is so designed that further automatic assembly can be introduced as the need and opportunity arises.
