IMMITTANCE IDENTIFICATION: AN APPLICATION TO THE DYNAMIC MODELLING OF VEHICLE COMPONENTS
If the dynamic characteristics of a number of vehicle components or sub-systems can be defined then it is possible to predict the vibration characteristics of an assembly comprising these sub-systems. One method of defining the dynamic characteristics of a sub-system is to specify its immittance matrix and so it is desirable to obtain a mathematical model of a component that is capable of generating this immittance matrix. Such a model can be obtained from experimental data produced from a vibration test on a component and then the process of developing the model is known as immittance identification. The paper shows how such modelling was carried out on vehicle suspension components from mobility test data and an analytical method that reduced the computation necessary when determining modal parameters of the model.
