IN-SERVICE TESTING OF ECONOMIC DRIVING STRATEGIES USING MICRO-COMPUTERS ON BOARD
PRAXISERPROBUNG VON FAHRSTRATEGIEN MITTELS BORDMIKRORECHENTECHNIK
Optimum driving techniques from the point of view of energy consumption have now been sufficiently perfected to be applied to electric and diesel-traction passenger and S-Bahn traffic. Energy savings of between 5 and 15% which could not be achieved by any other technical means, can be realised by calculating the driving schedule in advance. Line tests have confirmed the calculations and shown that the BMR 81 and BMR 84 micro-computers on board the locomotives operate correctly. The technique is being introduced on the Berlin S-Bahn and will be applied to diesel-hauled passenger trains from 1986.
