RUMBLING ROAD
To warn drivers of a hazard ahead the Swedish inventor, Sven Dahlstedt, suggests a "rumble strip" of matting connected between long flat side poles (British Patent 2 146372). The rumble strip is hurriedly laid on the road ahead of an accident or hazard. Any car approaching runs onto the mat and the driver is warned by the noise and vibration as the wheels cross the bars.
