HATFIELD LINK - A MODEL FOR FUTURE URBAN SCHEMES
Brief details are given of the urban motorway under construction at Hatfield to provide a link with existing sections of the a1(m). This will remove the last major bottleneck in the route between London and Edinburgh. A development consisting of an hotel, shops, offices, housing, ice skating rink and other leisure facilities, will be grouped above the 1150 metre long Hatfield tunnel section. The three mile length of motorway will be entirely at or below ground level and will include the construction of noise mounds to protect adjacent properties from the effects of the completed motorway.
