A STUDY OF AUSTRALIAN ROADS, INCLUDING THE EFFECTS OF ALTERNATIVE FUNDING LEVELS

This paper discusses a comprehensive study of Australian roads including the effects of alternative road funding levels. The study began in late 1980 and was completed in early 1984. The scope, organization and management of the study are outlined. The techniques and procedures used for data collection and analysis for rural arterial roads, urban arterial roads, and rural and urban local roads are described. Several concepts, not used in previous studies, were developed and/or applied in the study, and these are briefly mentioned. Some of the results of the study are summarized. Documentation of the study and ongoing actions after completion of it are outlined. (Author/TRRL)
