THE MILAN METRO NETWORK FROM THE FIRST YEARS OF OPERATION UP TO THE PRESENT

In this illustrated article details are given of operational characteristics and control, line installations, rolling stock, metropolitan growth and extension of the underground system. Overall from 1970 to 1983 the Milan underground system increased from 20.7 to 49 km, at an average extension of 2.2 km annually, and comprising a total of 60 stations. Substations have reached a total of 18, for an installed power nearly 100000 kw. At present the rolling stock comprises 382 vehicles of which 282 are powered. For the 90's an overall 75 km, comprising 3 lines and 90 stations, is expected to be in operation. (TRRL)
