THE INFLUENCE OF DIFFERENT WAYS OF REDUCING THE WORKING WEEK ON TRANSPORT PATTERNS
DER EINGLUSS VERSCHIEDENER VARIANTEN DER ARBEITSZEITVERKUERZUNG AUF DAS VERKEHRSGESCHEHEN
A reduction in working hours tends to alter the weight of various factors affecting choice of residence. Leisure becomes more important and travel between the city and the surrounding courtyside therefore increases. The first effect of a reduction in the working week is that journeys to work and to school become concentrated and shopping and leisure travel increases. The medium and long-term population shifts will increase the dispersion of leisure traffic.
