PARTICLE SIZE DISTRIBUTION AND PROPERTIES OF CEMENT. PART I: STRENGTH OF PORTLAND CEMENT
KORNGROESSENVERTEILUNG UND EIGENSCHAFTEN VON ZEMENT. TEIL I: FESTIGKEIT VON PORTLANDZEMENT
The specific surface area of the cement (area per unit mass) can be calculated from the particle size distribution parameters. The greater the slope, the narrower is the distribution. For equal specific surface area, cements with a narrower distribution have a smaller position parameter x' and thus a higher proportion of the fine particles. The strength increase of cements with equal specific surface area and progressively narrower particle size distribution is due to an increase in the proportion of consequence of completely hydrated fine particles.
