STRENGTHENING OF THE FOUNDATIONS AND REPAIR OF THE ARCHES OF THE ADUNATA BRIDGE OVER THE RIVER PAGLIA

CONSOLIDAMENTO DI FONDAZIONI E REINTEGRO STATICO DELLE ARCATE DEL PONTE DELL'ADUNATA SUL FIUME PAGLIA

The Adunata Bridge is a 5-span concrete masonry arch structure which carries state road 71 (Umbro-Casentina) across the River Paglia. This fairly ancient structure developed severe cracking of the arches following differential subsidence of the masonry piers, caused by river scour which unseated the foundations. An illustrated article describes the strengthening and restoring of the foundations, and the pressure injection of cement and resin to repair the cracks. (TRRL)
