VISIBILITY DURING OVERTAKING IN RELATION TO THE DISPOSITION OF GLARE SCREENS ON THE CENTRAL RESERVE OF SUBURBAN DIVIDED CARRIAGEWAYS

LA VISIBILITA DURANTE LA MANOVRA DI SORPASSO IN RELAZIONE ALLA DISPOSIZIONE DELLE SCHERMATURE ANNABAGLIANTI NELLA STRISCIA CENTRALE SPARTITRAFFICO DELLE STRADE EXTRAURBANE A CARREGGIATE SEPARATE

On divided carriageways glare screens (vegetation or prefabricated screens) on the central reserve often cause a visibility problem relative to left hand curves for vehicles in the overtaking lane. A similar problem occurs on curves in one-way tunnels where restricted lane widths often do not allow the necessary visiblity distance. The objective of this paper is to ascertain in the light of the current CNR standard (BU 78 of 28-7-1980), the effective values of horizontal circular curve radii necessary to ensure the visibility distance specified by the standard itself, in the presence of glare screens or in one-way tunnels.
