TOWARDS A NUMERICAL METHOD FOR THE OPTIMIZATION OF THE CHARACTERISTIC PARAMETERS OF THE PROPULSION SYSTEM OF ELECTRIC VEHICLES

VERSO UNA METODOLOGIA NUMERICA PER L'OTTIMIZZAZIONE DEI PARAMETRI CARATTERISTICI DEL GRUPPO PROPULSIVO DE VEICOLI A TRAZIONE ELETTRICA

This study reviews the development of batteries and of direct current and alternating current electric motors. It concludes that the problem of batteries with a high specific energy does not seem to have an imminent solution. The rational development of propulsion systems would be possible only if electric cars were produced in large numbers so that the motors and regulatory systems can be designed as an integral part of the vehicle. The study analyses the characteristic parameters relative to each component of the machine to derive a first optimisation of the energy cycle, as a means to determining the maximum overall performance of the propulsion system of the vehicle.
