THE GUIDED BUS
This article is largely based on presentation and discussion at a session on guided buses at the 1985 TRB Annual Meeting. It reviews the performance of guided bus systems in Birmingham, England, Adelaide, Australia, and Essen, West Germany. These systems have proved to be especially efficient, safe, and cost-effective. Probably their most attractive feature is that, because these systems can be built incrementally, it is possible to time their growth to the growth of the city instead of committing large sums to a pattern of development that may not materialize.
