INNOVATIONS IN TRAFFIC SIGNAL EQUIPMENT: COMMUNICATION WITH ROAD USERS

Details are given of the special signals installed in the city of Vienna for pedestrians and cyclists, trams, buses and cars (lane control signals) in order to increase traffic control efficiency. The control of these new traffic signals is effected with a new 16 bit microprocessor which also handles data transfer between the intersection controller and the central traffic control office. New operation desks have been installed in the newly constructed operation room. The design and operation of the signals are described. For the covering abstract of the seminar see TRIS 450556.
