MOBILITY BEHAVIOUR AND URBAN STRUCTURE, AN EMPIRICAL STUDY
An attempt is made to identify the relationship between mobility behaviour and a number of specific attributes of urban space, by means of a quasi-experimental research design. It consists of recording the mobility behaviour of a group of persons who, following a relocation of their residences, are moving from one urban structure to another urban environment. Specifically, moving out of Paris intra-muros to the new town of Marne-la-Vallee. The main outcome is that the urban structure in Marne appears to reduce the choice universe vis-a-vis that of Paris. Readjustments of both activity patterns and travel time budgets were found. Individual strategies have in some cases been reformulated, as far as shopping behaviour is concerned. (TRRL)
